While car modification and customization certainly is cool, a lot of what goes on isn't just for looks. These modifications do serve practical purposes- they can enhance car and/or driver performance, for example, or protect your car from damage. And when you've spent so much money on making your car look good and perform well, protection is exactly what you should have.

Take Smoked tail lights, for example. Putting a tint or smoking your lights makes them darker and less see-through, which looks good, but it also protects the glass of your rear lights from scratches. If your car is hit hard enough (like with a larger piece of rock, while going at high speeds), it will leave a dent. This doesn't necessarily mean another trip to the car shop to have the whole panel reworked and repainted, and several days' worth of waiting.
