Create A Website--how Do I Start?

by Tem Balanco

Internet sites have become an integral part of the fabric of our daily lives these days. You can visit current events sites, sites for playing games, sites for social or career networking, and lots of others. Indeed, there is probably one for any subject you can possibly come up with. But how does one place one's own material online? Sure, you can enter "create a website" into a search engine and get flooded with responses, but how many of them would actually be helpful to you?

Many different people feel the need to create websites. The most important step before you start is to determine its function. Is it personal? Perhaps you want to post pictures of your children for family to enjoy. It might be professional, a way for an artist to display his or her portfolio. It could even be the start of a home business. Each of these requires a different sort of site construction.

Most browsers contain built-in software for making simple web pages. One can create a simple, attractive page just by choosing a few options for backgrounds, adding pictures or inserting text. More advanced users can modify the HTML code behind the site by hand, in effect "writing" their own site. These are easily the lowest-cost methods of putting a site together, particularly for the self-hosting Webmaster, or just someone who wants to keep their site ad-free at the expense of bandwidth costs.

If you want your website to have a professional layout, it is better to use a software you found either online or in stores that helps you create a website with a better and more professional appearance instead of building a simple site on your own. With some practice with the software, you will find it easy to build a website with an exceptionally professional and sophisticated look. The higher cost than the simple package with your browser is worthwhile if the site is not only used for personal use.

As far as the smaller sites go, those belonging to home-based businesses are by far the most complicated to design. This is because they have to not only display the merchandise being offered, but they must also track purchases, and most importantly, accept and securely keep customer information. This type of shopping cart software is best to purchase and customize later on, unless you have a lot of experience with web design.

If you want to create a website, there are many options available to choose from. Some are extremely inexpensive, for example, you can simply use the software which comes bundled with your browser. Others cost more, such as buying a pre-made website which can be customized for your needs, or buying software that will enable you to create your own professional website. You can expect to pay more for programs which offer more advanced features. Before you decide how to create your site, consider how you intend to use it.

All types of websites exist these days and finding out how to create a website is easy, but the information may not always be relevant. Sites can be for personal use, career moves or a business start-up. You can use website building programs or create websites yourself if you have the talent -- whereas your site will showcase your great work. Smaller sites are harder because of fewer products, tracking and security so it's best to purchase shopping cart software and customize it later. Whatever you choose, prices will vary so consider your needs before buying.
